Shortnin' Bread
Traditional, lyrics adapted by Eric Litwin and Michael Levine
Lyrics:
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’, shortnin’
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’ bread
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’, shortnin’
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’ bread
Went to the doctor, doctor said
Give that baby some shortnin’ bread
Went to the doctor, doctor said
Give that baby some shortnin’ bread
Mama’s little baby loves whole wheat, whole wheat
Mama’s little baby loves whole wheat bread
Mama’s little baby loves whole wheat, whole wheat
Mama’s little baby loves whole wheat bread
Went to the doctor, doctor said
Give that baby some whole wheat bread
Went to the doctor, doctor said
Give that baby some whole wheat bread
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’, shortnin’
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’ bread
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’, shortnin’
Mama’s little baby loves shortnin’ bread
Activities:
Lap song: Put your child in your lap & sing the song together a cappella (without the CD). Insert basic lap song activities, like rocking, shaking, bouncing, leaning, wiggling, tickling, hugging, etc. instead of the word, “shortnin’.” It may sound silly, but you’ll say, “Mama’s little baby loves rockin’ rockin’, Mama’s little baby loves rockin’ bread.”
Sing-along: Pat your laps to the beat, and take suggestions for different types of bread, like white bread, wheat bread, rye bread, sourdough, onion rolls, etc. “Mama’s little baby loves low-carb, low-carb, Mama’s little baby loves low-carb wraps!”
Stretchy band: If you have a stretchy band and a group of people, take suggestions for different types of food. For example, “Mama’s little baby loves oatmeal oatmeal, Mama’s little baby loves oatmeal, yum.” Swap out different foods, and then in between verses lean back and say, “Yum!”.
