By Eric Litwin and Michael Levine

Lyrics:

Chorus

Peace train is a coming
Peace trainā€™s coming so get on board
Peace train is a coming
Peace trainā€™s coming so get on board

Can you hear that clickity clack?
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!
Peace trainā€™s rolling down the track.
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!

Chorus

You may be big or you may be small.
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!
Peace trainā€™s gonna take you all.
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!

Chorus

You may be rich or you may be poor.
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!
Peace train has an open door.
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!

Chorus

When you hear the train bell ring
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!
All the children start to sing.
Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!

Activities:

Direction Dance/ Egg Shaker Song (with the CD): Play the song on the CD and sing along while shaking your eggs to the beat and walking in a circle or around the house.  If you donā€™t have egg shakers at home, use any toy that makes a noise when you shake it, such as a rattle, or any other childrenā€™s instrument, like maracas or wrist bells.

Direction Dance/ Egg Shaker Song (a cappella): Same as above, but sing it a cappella without the CD, so you can take suggestions or call them out on your own. Sing the chorus while walking in a circle or around the house and shaking eggs to the beat.  Then take suggestions for places to go next in each verse.  You can then improvise lines such as, ā€œThe peace trainā€™s going to ________.  Child: Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!  Make up a rhyming line.  Child:  Chuga chuga chuga chuga ā€“ whoo whoo!  You can also substitute your childā€™s name instead of saying the peace train, such as ā€œSaraā€™s going to the zoo.ā€  Here are some examples for places to go and rhyming words: school/cool, pool/cool, park/dark, moon/soon, zoo/you.

Itā€™s fun to change directions (ā€œoh, thatā€™s the other way!ā€), go slower (ā€œwhoah, we have to go uphill to get there!ā€), go faster (ā€œNow we have to go downhill!ā€), etc.

As an alternative, you could take suggestions for ā€œWho else can get on the peace train?ā€   Then you improvise lines like, ā€œThe peace train carries the police manā€¦ Everybody loves the police man.ā€  Or make up any line that rhymes.

Transportation: Take this opportunity to learn about other vehicles and modes of transportation.  Ask for suggestions, such as trains, planes, cars, wagons, spaceships, rockets, helicopters, buses, skateboards, scooters, motorcycles, bicycles, etc. Sing, ā€œThe Peace Bus is a coming, the Peace Bus is coming so get on board,ā€ etc.

Color in the Picture and Make Peace Signs: Color the picture of ā€œPeace Trainā€ in the coloring sheet.  Show your child how to draw the symbol for a ā€œpeace signā€ and draw them all over the coloring book page.
